What are you lookin at?
James 1:19-27
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
We’ve all heard the definition of experience. “You take the test, before you learn the lesson”
James is trying to help us avoid this scenario in our lives through the image of the mirror.
There have been many notable references to mirrors
“Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all” - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
“I’m looking at the man in the mirror” - Michael Jackson
“We have met the enemy and He is us!”- Pogo This is derived from the famous statement of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry on the \\\\\\\"War of 1812\\\\\\\": \\\\\\\"We have met the enemy and they are ours\\\\\\\".
The great book by Patrick Morley “The man in the mirror” a must read!
James 1: 23-24
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
I Corinthians 13:12
12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
It’s interesting to note that a mirror can tell us just about anything we want or need to see. The mirror is actually nothing but a reflection of us….the real us….that no one but us and God sees. When we realize that it is, in fact, God that creates the reflection we long to see in the mirror, it becomes easier to give Him Control of our lives. The ultimate reflection we are seeking is when we people look at US and see CHRIST.
God Bless,
